2005 Final Program and Abstract Book -- Flash Version
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is my great pleasure to invite you to the 14th Annual Congress of the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group (IPEG).
The theme of the congress is Love for Children through Technology. For more than a decade, our society has been and still is at the forefront of developing minimally invasive surgical techniques for use in children. We have had great success and are now able to apply these techniques even in the smallest children. The annual meetings have been a platform for sharing experiences and thus for sharing responsibility. This has undoubtedly promoted not only feasibility but also safety. As our experience increases, we will be able to provide more evidence that what we are doing is right. So our congress will not only bring us into contact with new ideas and techniques but will also reflect on effectiveness and on efficacy.
This year our congress is linked with the annual congress of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES). Especially in the field of technological surgical improvements, joint meetings of IPEG with large surgical organizations, having comparable goals, will keep our minds wide open to the ocean. Full access to a large exhibition is part of that. Except for mutual interest in technology, there is mutual interest in a number of fields e.g. gastroesophageal reflux disease, on which there will be a joint session.
I would like to express my gratitude to all colleagues, who have helped to put the program together and to BSC for dealing with all the other matters.
Venice is one of the most beautiful cities of the world. I am sure that the Venetian atmosphere will bring us further together not only professionally but also personally.

- It is our pleasure to host the 6th Congress of the Societa Italiana di Video Chirurgia Italiana (SIVI) with Dr. Mario Lima as Chairman
Dear IPEG Members and Meeting Attendees,
It is a great pleasure to invite you to this year’s IPEG meeting in Venice. We have a challenging program for you, which focuses on some burning, controversial issues, which are being discussed all over the world. Three topics have been chosen for panel discussions: Thoracoscopic repair of esophageal atresia, evidence-based treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, and the role of endoscopic surgery in pediatric malignant tumors. A series of excellent invited speakers from various fields and from EAES will be contributing to the discussions. We are aiming to extract some consensus from the panels, which will potentially have an impact on our pediatric surgical routine.
We are looking forward to receiving your papers and videos on recent developments and scientific work in endoscopic pediatric surgery. In addition, I am happy to announce two excellent and stimulating invited speakers: Prof. Marescaux from IRCAD will give an update on virtual reality and advanced surgical technology, and Dr. Müller from Lufthansa will speak on error management in aviation.
Venice will give us an opportunity to enjoy a very special atmosphere and I am very much looking forward to spending some exciting and interesting days with you in this challenging place.
Benno Ure, IPEG Program Chairman
